New Rule: Americans Must Realize What Makes NFL Football So Great: Socialism
Bill Maher:
It’s no surprise that some 100 million Americans will watch the Super Bowl next week - that’s 40 million more than go to church on Christmas - suck on that, Jesus!…
The “Other League” is a lot like that, in that there is revenue sharing in the Canadian Football League. There is also a salary cap. It also features three community owned teams in the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Edmonton Eskimos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It also features something else which is similar to baseball in the States. Baseball is considered the States National Past-time. And while hockey is Canada’s national sport, next to lacrosse, the Canadian Football League has carved a national identity.
The Canadian Football League has attached itself to national identity. After failed attempts at expansion into the States, the CFL now sees expansion at home as the only viable option. With Ottawa coming on board in 2013, there is also promise that there could be more. Interest has sparked in Moncton, Halifax and Quebec City. Where would it go from there? Each team would want the same kind of success as the Roughriders and the Montreal Allouettes currently hold. And they’ll get it, because the league knows that they have to have all teams be successful in order to have a completely successful league.
Yesterday we were all Tunisian. Today, we are all Egyptian. Tomorrow we will all be free.

The latest in Canyons of Steel is up. There was a bit of confusion on my part last week, I posted part three instead of part two. Part two is now up. Here’s a preview:
Maxwell clicked the end button on his cellphone and slipped it back into his duster, leaning back on the horse for a moment. The South Saskatchewan River Valley in late August was beautiful. The leaves were just beginning to turn, and from Maxwell’s vantage point he could see forever. God’s country. That’s what they called it. The Creator’s masterpiece. Perhaps he would need this, for a time. He hadn’t done anything except work on campus since his wife’s death.
Oh, there was his alter ego. But that really wasn’t an alter ego when the entire city of Saskatoon knew. The media had dubbed him Hawk’s Scream. His feathered wing harness along with the amplification unit he’d managed to piece together was a familiar sight over the city, as he often would assist police in apprehending criminals. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was something he could do to give back to his community. And at the same time, maybe he could find Raven.
And, just so you can keep up, here’s Canyons of Steel: Chapter One - Part Three. Please leave comments in the ask box, I do take constructive criticism.

Change.org members in Egypt are asking all of us to support them.
Late on Saturday night, two pro-Democracy activists — a young man and a young woman who’ve asked that we not use their names out of fear of imprisonment and torture — started a petition on Change.org, dictating the text to an ally over a phone line because the government has shut down the internet throughout the country.
These Egyptians — activists participating in what is being called the “January 25 Movement” — believe we’re at a possible tipping point within the country. The Egyptian army has is siding with the protesters, the President has already been forced to dismiss his entire cabinet, and there are unconfirmed reports that some members of the ruling family are leaving the country.
These Egyptian activists believe that a flood of international support right now can help to change the course of Egypt’s history for decades to come.
This is extremely urgent — please don’t wait to take action. Click here now to add your name to this critical petition for democracy started by these two Egyptian activists on behalf of the January 25 Movement:

Thanks for taking action today,
Patrick and the Change.org Team
P.S. Here’s the text of the petition: (You can see the original version in Arabic here.)
On January 25, we the people of Egypt took to the streets to demand our rights!
We are not unified by one party, class or religion: we are not Muslim and we are not Christian, we are not rich and we are not poor - we are the multifaceted people of Egypt - Muslims and Christians and Egyptians of all classes.
We demand our civil, political and human rights.
We demand the immediate resignation of the president and parliament.
We demand a new constitution.
We demand free and fair elections.
We demand the complete and total release of all political prisoners and detainees.
We demand the return of open access to all communication networks.
We demand that the police stop shooting at us, stop their brutality and stop their attacks on journalists.
We are the January 25 movement, and we are not going to stop until our demands are met!
We call on Egyptians and our international supporters to sign this petition of support, which will be sent to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, officials in the interior and foreign ministries, and Egyptian embassies all over the world.

For my Canadian followers: SIGN THIS PETITION! Shaw has been pushing this for a while now, and it’s getting really close to being passed.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are about to impose usage-based billing on YOU.
This means we’re looking at a future where ISPs will charge per byte, the way they do with smart phones. If we allow this to happen Canadians will have no choice but to pay MUCH more for less Internet. Big Telecom companies are obviously trying to gouge consumers, control the Internet market, and ensure that consumers continue to subscribe to their television services.
ASSHOLES. REBLOG THIS.
I wonder if this will have the same affect on companies like SaskTel that also provide internet service. If so, think of companies, such as the print shop I work at, who rely on internet usage in order to operate.
